Aesthetics
The person who will be reviewing your resume will likely spend only 15 seconds looking at it, the easier it is to read - the greater your chance of selling yourself in that short amount of time.
This week I will be showing off a resume I received from a coworker.
Their resume was sloppy, but with about 30 minutes worth of work and some simple tricks, I made it look a lot cleaner.
By spending a few minutes to an hour messing with your resume aesthetics, you can really make a big difference.
So here is what I did:
- Pulled the personal information into a string of text below the name, using '|' to denote the separation
- Increased the size of the name
- Eliminated unnecessary headers and combined subjects when applicable
- Aligned text to the left and dates to the right
- Created horizontal lines to divide important information
- This is done by entering in '_' across the width of the page in Word
- once it covers the entire width of the page, press 'Enter'
- this turns it into a thick line and applies it to the text above.
